THE PROGRAM

The program is divided into 4 levels each lasting for 13 weeks. Each participant is scheduled for program options in a manner that fits with their individual goal plan/return to work action plan.

Components

The Life Skills program uses a "learn by doing" approach to teaching problem-solving behaviours in areas of family, self, community, job, education, and leisure.

The Upgrading program is made up of three areas: Literacy, Pre- GED, and GED. The Literacy program helps with low reading and math skills. The Pre-GED program helps to increase skills to enrol in the GED program working towards writing the provincially administered GED exam.

There are 4 work exploration areas: Workshop, Janitorial, Food Service, and Clerical. These programs teach skills for employment and provide valuable feedback about work styles and aptitudes.

Additional components and sessions including Customer Service, Intro to Technology, W.H.M.I.S. and the Food Handler's Course are also offered.

The Pre-Voc program deals with career exploration and employment. Job expectations, work habits, job applications, resume and cover letter preparation, and interview skills are all topics of the program.

Work experience placements start at 3 half-days per week during the third level and increase to 4 full days per week during the fourth level of the program offering a total of 500 hours of on-the-job work experience.
